More War PR

Since the invasion, the pentagon has been promoting the war in cemeteries. For the first time in the history of the United States, slogans are being engraved into fallen soldiers' headstones. Families now have the option to include "Operation Enduring Freedom" or "Operation Iraqi Freedom" at no extra cost to the headstone. There have been a number of cases where permission to add the slogan was not even asked. Former Sen. Max Cleland, D-Ga., who lost both legs and an arm in Vietnam and headed the Veterans Administration under President Carter, called the practice "a little bit of glorified advertising."

War

"...the United States government does not need a “strategy” to get out of Iraq any more than a killer needs a strategy to stop killing."
Norman Solomon

I agree. An illegal war should be ended, not because we are "losing", but because it was pitched with a large dose of fear, false information and stereotypes. Americans were lied to by CEOs who have high-jacked our democracy. Regardless of the spin put upon the war, no one wins. Anyone looking forward to winning a war has a shallow regard for human life. End the wars because it's the right thing to do, winning or losing is irrelevant.

Even more Treason from the White House

As Bush continues to boast about "staying the coarse" and "fighting terrorism", his administration seems to be defying his every word. After capturing a high-profile Al Qaeda member, an administrative official leaked his status to the New York Times.

Mohammad Naeem Noor Khan was know for his computer know-how and used by Al Qaeda to decode information within the organization's cells. He was apprehended by CIA agents who in turn monitored Khan while he continued his correspondence for two more days.

Reuters covered the story:

U.S. officials providing justification for anti-terrorism alerts revealed details about a Pakistani secret agent, and confirmed his name while he was working under cover in a sting operation, Pakistani sources said on Friday. A Pakistani intelligence source told Reuters Mohammad Naeem Noor Khan, who was arrested in Lahore secretly last month, had been actively cooperating with intelligence agents to help catch al Qaeda operatives when his name appeared in U.S. newspapers.

After the sting was prematurely exposed, British officials rushed to apprehend 12 suspects. The Times cited both Pakistani and U.S. government officials as the source of the top secret information. The author justified revealing Khan's identity to explain why the nation was at code orange. Isn't hunting down the terrorists and capturing Bin Laden more important than explaining an orange alert.

While the Times cited a Pakistani intelligence official as one of the sources for the story, it is now clear that corrupt white house officials are to blame.

Juan Cole:
"[CNN's Wolf] Blitzer then revealed that he had discussed the Khan case with U.S. National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice on background. He reported that she had admitted that the Bush administration had in fact revealed Khan's name to the press."

Let's hope that innocent people don't have to pay with their lives just for the political backstabbing that's happening in our capital.

Statesmen

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
[Theodore Roosevelt] 1918

“All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent. ”

A Thought on Eating Meat

As I was watching a nature program last night, the thought occurred to me. If humans were meant to eat meat naturally, why do we have to cook it to avoid getting sick?

I think hunters should eat deer raw if they think they are true carnivores.

Monsanto files patent on "Pigs"

The patent applications were published in February 2005 at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva....There are more than 160 countries and territories mentioned where the patent is sought including Europe, the Russian Federation, Asia (India, China, Philippines) America (USA, Brazil, Mexico), Australia and New Zealand. WIPO itself can only receive applications, not grant patents. The applications are forwarded to regional patent offices.

This is extremely important. Health conscience people have been vocal, rejecting Monsanto's attack on natural DNA in the environment. Australia, a country that has forbidden any GM foods, now finds over 1% of it's imports are contaminated with GM foods. Small farmers with fields of non-GM crops are in danger when farming near GM crops. The GM seed becomes airborne and is integrated into the non-GM crop without the farmer's knowledge. In some cases, Monsanto has demanded payment for the use of it's unwanted crop, sometimes taking the farmer to court.

I feel the most dangerous line being crossed is the ownership of reproduction. No company or government has the right to own nature's most creative expression of freedom. No matter what the animal or plant is - ownership of life is oppression. True spokespersons for "freedom" take note.

The evolution of warfare has used technology to save human lives. I believe this is more of a political motivation than a humanitarian one. Voters do not like to see the true cost of war (death) so we are being removed from the process. The DNA patent power of Monsanto (who gave us agent orange in Vietnam) combined with the current climate of war and fear will soon birth a synthetic soldier. A soldier lacking the rights to reproduce and lacking the freedoms of the constitution. This could be the utopia for the CIA, pentagon and the neocons... or it could be my imagination.

Let's hope it's the latter...

Israel, 18 USC 793, 18 USC 794 and Karl Rove

The dominos are falling.

Two former employees of a pro-Israel lobbying organization were charged Thursday with conspiring to obtain and disclose classified U.S. defense information as far back as 1999 on a variety of topics, including al-Qaida, terrorist activities in Central Asia, the bombing of Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia and U.S. policy in Iran. The indictment named Steven Rosen, formerly the director of foreign policy issues for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and Keith Weissman, the organization's former senior Iran analyst.

After 911, there were rumors on the web that Israel had knowledge of the attack but allowed it to happen so the millitary could further it's aggression towards muslims. But that's a different story...

More on Rosen & Weissman

The Bush administration should be very afraid of 793 and 794 because they mean prison. When Rove decided to push Plame into public light, it was not just retaliation against her husband's dissent. Plame worked for a CIA front company called Brewster Jennings & Associates, who's sole function was to gather information on WMD's. The Bush administration could not risk the chance of the CIA gaining information that would challenge the Iraq invasion and exposed their investigation.

Why Rove should get at least life in prison:

"18 USC 794 (b)
Whoever, in time of war, with intent that the same shall be communicated to the enemy, collects, records, publishes, or communicates, or attempts to elicit any information with respect to the movement, numbers, description, condition, or disposition of any of the Armed Forces, ships, aircraft, or war materials of the United States, or with respect to the plans or conduct, or supposed plans or conduct of any naval or military operations, or with respect to any works or measures undertaken for or connected with, or intended for the fortification or defense of any place, or any other information relating to the public defense, which might be useful to the enemy, shall be punished by death or by imprisonment for any term of years or for life."

Notice the first sentence, "in time of war". The Bush administration has begun to address this potential loophole with a new spin campaign. The "Global War Against Terror" is now being called the "Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism". Rove and company seem desperate to save their asses. They are also trying to remove Patrick Fitzgerald from the Treasongate investigation who is special counsel, "Acting" with the full authority of the US Attorney General. Patrick is also US Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. As he was building his case in Chicago, the Chicago subway was shut down due to a bomb threat.

These thugs will stop at nothing to stay in power.

Please contact your local media and demand this story get in depth coverage. For more information on this Treasongate from a retired attorney's interpretation of the law go read Citizenspook.

Chicago Grand Jury Indicts Bush And Others?

U.S. federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, Claims the Chicago Grand Jury will indict Bush and others for perjury. The U.S. attorney's office refuses to confirm or deny the alleged indictments. Fitzgerald's initial investigation into the Valerie Plame - CIA leak has spilled over to the pre-emptive war in Iraq as well as national security prior 9-11.

...Powell testified before the citizen grand jury that President Bush had taken the U.S. to war illegally based on lies, which is a capital crime involving treason under the U.S. Code.

Fitzgerald’s investigation is said to be also centered on members of the 9/11 Commission, members on both sides of the isle in the House and Senate and also select high-powered members of the media.

Needless to say, members close to the administration are ‘fighting mad” with Fitzgerald and reports on Capital Hill are that Senate intelligence Committee Chairman Pat Roberts is trying to derail Fitzgerald’s probe by calling him to testify before the Senate regarding his true motives behind the investigation.

Political observers are now wondering whether administration-friendly Republican legislators, some under investigation themselves, are conspiring like President Nixon did in Watergate with Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox, attempting to fire Fitzgerald in the same manner in order to cool the heat on further investigations into Bush administration crimes.

Last week, other sources close to the investigation said the recent bomb scare in the subway under the Dirksen Federal Building, coincidently near where Fitzgerald was holding his grand jury hearings, raised serious questions as to whether government operatives loyal to Bush were sending the zealous prosecutor a “warning message” that he was entering murky waters with the extent of his investigation.

The Laziest Hippie?

President Bush is taking 5 weeks off of work. It is the longest presidential retreat in at least 36 years. This will be his 49th trip to his ranch in Crawford since taking office. Nearly 20 percent of his presidency to date has been spent on vacation (319 days), according to Mark Knoller, a CBS Radio reporter.

Bush will easily top Reagan before his term ends, who spent all or part of 335 days in Santa Barbara over his eight-year presidency.

And conservatives say hippies are lazy...

Astronauts warn of visible environmental damage

“Sometimes you can see how there is erosion, and you can see how there is deforestation. It’s very widespread in some parts of the world,” Collins said in a conversation from space with Japanese officials in Tokyo, including Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.

“We would like to see, from the astronauts’ point of view, people take good care of the Earth and replace the resources that have been used,” said Collins, who was standing with Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi in front of a Japanese flag and holding a colorful fan.

Collins, flying her fourth shuttle mission, said the view from space made clear that Earth’s atmosphere must be protected, too.

“The atmosphere almost looks like an eggshell on an egg, it’s so very thin,” she said. “We know that we don’t have much air, we need to protect what we have.”

Keeping it in the family

Since the 1980's, progressives have been able to invest in SRI's (socially responsible investments). Now the religious right have MRI's (morally responsible investments). The Timothy Plan helps the Bible influenced investor to avoid organizations that pollute "family values." The group avoids Merck & Company for fetal tissue research, Procter & Gamble for donating to Planned Parenthood, Amazon.com for officially recognizing gay and lesbian groups. The group also pushed The Girl Scouts, General Mills and Target to end contributions to Planned Parenthood by boycotts and letter writing campaigns. Arthur Ally, the Timothy Fund’s founder, describes Cosmopolitan and Glamour as the “most blatantly aggressive soft core pornographic magazines in America.” Arthur Ally was formerly vice president at Shearson Lehman Brothers and started the Timothy Plan in 1994 as his “ministry” with a single fund for pastors. According to Covert, it now runs nine mutual funds, amounting to investments of $345 million and has grown tenfold in five years. Of course it is no surprise that God's chosen find no problem investing in arms-makers, military contractors, or companies with poor environmental records.

Back in the virtual saddle

It may not be a coincidence that my last post was made the same month that I started drawing my graphic novel/comic book. The story and navigation has been finished, as well as the first draft for about 40 pages. When finished, the book should be about 130 pages.

I've been painting quite a bit. Looking forward to my show next month at Sam Bonds.

I've been riding my bike a ton! Friday night, I joined about 20 other bikers for a midnight mystery ride. It was a blast riding around town and on the river paths from midnight to 2:30am. Only the leader knew where we were going, in the end we found ourselves on top of Hendricks Hill in the Rodi Gardens.

The web page update has been tough and slow going but is almost there. I expect the shopping cart to be working by the end of the month. Or I should say "I hope"....
